Identify the exact contract and any pegging or bridge arrangement. Never infer direct Tether issuance or redeemability from the USDT symbol alone.

Three facts a token name cannot establish

| Question | Evidence to look for |
|---|---|
| Who issued this token? | An issuer or bridge document naming the exact chain and contract. |
| What backs the representation? | Current backing, reserve or custody documentation for that representation—not for a different token. |
| Who accepts or redeems it? | The recipient’s supported deposit contract and the applicable redemption or conversion terms. |
BNB Chain’s ecosystem overview discusses multiple stablecoin designs. That overview does not certify an arbitrary contract named USDT. Use token-specific issuer or bridge documentation to make the attribution.
Read issuer registries at token level
A network appearing on a supported-protocol page is not enough: it can be listed for another asset. Confirm the actual token under that network. During this review, the BNB Smart Chain entry on Tether’s protocol page listed XAU₮; that is not evidence that a USDT contract on BNB Smart Chain is directly issued by Tether.
Support can change. Recheck the current issuer registry and the exact contract before relying on any historical classification. This guide does not certify a specific BEP-20 USDT contract or its collateral.
Same address shape, separate network
BNB Smart Chain and Ethereum can use the same EVM-style address format. That does not mean a deposit sent on one appears on the other. An exchange can display the same address for several networks while accepting only a defined list of tokens.
Get explicit confirmation of BNB Smart Chain support and the exact token. Do not send first and ask the recipient to bridge or recover the funds afterward.
Compare delivery, not the network’s headline fee
A service can charge its own withdrawal fee, spread and minimum. The network gas cost is only one component. If the destination requires native USDT elsewhere, include any additional conversion and cross-chain costs.
Inspect wallet permissions as well as the amount. A contract allowance authorizes spending; it is not a guarantee that you will receive a backed or redeemable token in return.
When the evidence is incomplete, stop
A “BEP-20 mixer” claim does not resolve any of these gaps. A transfer adds exposure before token provenance is settled; there is no need to test that uncertainty with funds.
- The service supplies a ticker but will not identify the contract.
- A reserve claim links to a different chain, asset or legal entity.
- The destination supports USDT but does not confirm this representation.
- The route is promoted as immune from freezing or universally redeemable.
