Use the current wallet estimate for the actual operation. A token approval, a USDT transfer and a swap are different transactions with different permissions and gas use.

Check the contract, then the receiving network
Match the USDT contract with Ethereum in Tether’s current registry. Verify that the receiver accepts Ethereum USDT, not simply an EVM-compatible address. Other networks can use the same address format without sharing the same balances.
For an exchange deposit, use its current instructions, including minimums and any restrictions. A wallet token list is convenient, but it is not the authority for the receiving platform’s deposit policy.
Why the 21,000-gas shortcut is wrong here
Ethereum documentation uses 21,000 gas for a basic ETH transfer. USDT is a token contract, so sending it involves contract execution. Estimate the actual transaction instead of multiplying a basic ETH-transfer figure by the gas price.
Fees are paid in ETH and reflect gas consumed and the effective price per gas. The maximum fee in a wallet is not necessarily the final charge. An execution that fails can still consume gas even though the token movement is reverted.
Approval is not payment
Scroll horizontally to read all columns.
| Action | Effect | Read before signing |
|---|---|---|
| Transfer | Requests a movement of tokens to a recipient. | Token, destination, amount and network. |
| Approval | Allows a spender to use tokens up to an allowance. | Spender contract, allowance amount and why permission is needed. |
A swap application may ask for an approval before executing its swap. Do not report the approval transaction as a completed USDT payment. If an interface requests permission unrelated to your intended operation, stop and verify it independently.
Read the receipt without confusing ETH and USDT
An explorer’s main transaction value can show zero ETH while a token-transfer entry shows USDT moving. Check the Tokens Transferred section, the USDT contract, amount and recipient. The “To” field may be the token or application contract rather than the final token recipient.
A success label confirms the recorded execution status, not that an offchain account was credited or that the token was authentic. Review both the receipt and the recipient’s deposit record.
Contract activity is not private by default
Ethereum makes account, transaction and token data available through public explorers. A mixer-labelled interface does not change the visibility of the underlying records by its name alone.
USDT also remains subject to Tether’s issuer powers. Evaluate protocol claims and service policies separately from network fees; a more expensive operation is not necessarily more private or safer.
